The World Games 2022

Competing Globally. Uniting Locally.

In 2017, 80 athletes from 26 countries participated in 3 orienteering events in The World Games (TWG) in Poland. And in 2022, The World Games came to Birmingham!

The Birmingham games was the 40th anniversary of TWG and was held from July 7-17, 2022. The World Games was established by the International World Games Association, an organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The World Games 2022 featured elite orienteering at its best, for athletes, spectators, and followers around the globe. Our sport will had 40 male and 40 female athletes participating in three competitions: Individual Sprint, Individual Middle Distance, and a Sprint Relay. The USA and Canada, as the hosting region's two largest Federations, had the right to enter 2 men and 2 women. The 13 Federations with the highest World Games qualification points, excluding USA and Canada, had the right to enter 2 men and 2 women.

The Vulcan Orienteering Club was excited about the opportunity to help with such a unique event. The VOC provided volunteers for activities such as map checking, course vetting, pre-runners, control sitters/supervisors, assistance in the quarantine and warm-up areas, start crew, finish crew, course marshals, and general assistance to TWG staff at the venue for each event.
