The World Games 2022

Competing Globally. Uniting Locally.

In 2017, 80 athletes from 26 countries participated in 3 orienteering events in The World Games (TWG) in Poland. And in 2022, The World Games are coming to Birmingham! The Vulcan Orienteering Club (VOC) is excited to be helping with such a unique event.

The Birmingham games will be the 40th anniversary of TWG and will be from July 7-17, 2022. They were established by the International World Games Association, an organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The World Games 2022 will feature elite orienteering at its best, for athletes, spectators, and followers around the globe. Our sport will have 40 male and 40 female athletes participating in three competitions: Individual Sprint, Individual Middle Distance, and a Sprint Relay. The USA and Canada, as the hosting region's two largest Federations, will each have the right to enter 2 men and 2 women. The 13 Federations with the highest World Games qualification points, excluding USA and Canada, will each have the right to enter 2 men and 2 women.

For more information, visit TheWorldGames2022.com. Bulletin 1 is now released and can be found in IOF Eventor.

The VOC will provide volunteers for activities such as map checking, course vetting, pre-runners, control sitters/supervisors, assistance in the quarantine and warm-up areas, start crew, finish crew, course marshals, and general assistance to TWG staff at the venue for each event. Contact Anne Mathews for more information about volunteering.
